What is SKM?
SKM stands for Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia, the Malaysian Skills Certificate. It is a national skills qualification issued under the Malaysian Skills Certification System by the Department of Skills Development (JPK), part of the Ministry of Human Resources. SKM is competency-based — you are assessed on whether you can perform the tasks of a job to the national standard — and it comes in three certificate levels: SKM Level 1 for basic operations, SKM Level 2 for more skilled work, and SKM Level 3 for supervisory-level competence. The confusion people have is thinking SKM and a diploma are unrelated, or that SKM is "a diploma." Choose an SKM if you want the quickest, most direct entry into a trade — it gets you assessed, certified and job-ready at an entry or intermediate level in less time, and you can always progress upward later. SKM and DKM at SG Academy
